The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service is a not for profit, independent organisation that works without prejudice to render safe blood and blood products to all communities in the Western Cape.

The Service strives to excel in the science of blood transfusion and utilises the latest technology and research to reach this objective.

The Service operates according to international standards as set out by the World Health Organisation, complies strictly with the government of South Africa's Human Tissue Act and is accredited by the South African National Accreditation Service (SANAS).

The WPBTS collects more than 130,000 units of blood that is used to save or enhance the lives of more than 390,000 people each year.
