The Western Cape Blood Transfusion Service has a special donation programme for regular, healthy donors after the age of 66 years.

If there are no major health problems, donors in the programme will be allowed to donate blood four times per year, provided that the donations are spread evenly throughout the year at three-monthly intervals.

At the age of 75, the WPBTS requires a letter from the donor's physician that gives permission to continue donating blood. This will be kept on file by WPBTS and should senior donors wish to stop donating, they can just advise the Service of their decision.
